New Arena at Beaufort Polo

Emsworth Overview on match day

Equus Design & Build are delighted to announce a new project and partnership with the Beaufort Polo Club.

The Beaufort Polo Club is home to the famous Tomlinson dynasty and located in the heart of the Cotswolds. Equus Design & Build have been appointed by the Beaufort Polo Club to deliver a new polo arena, capable of withstanding polo all year round.

Deeply rooted within polo, Equus Design & Build have planned, designed, and completed more polo arenas and developments than any other equestrian specialist contractor, with projects in China, Spain, and Poland. The Beaufort Polo Club are developing their facilities with the addition of an all-weather polo arena. The planning permission, design and build has all been completed by Equus Design & Build. The new 90m by 45m all-weather polo arena offers the ability to play all year round.

Equus Design & Build’s alignment with the Beaufort Polo Club demonstrates their ongoing commitment to polo. Managing Director of Equus Design & Build, Hugh Daly said: “We are so proud and delighted to have been appointed by the Beaufort Polo Club to design and build for them. Equus Design & Build have been building polo arenas worldwide for twenty years and have completed more than any other provider.”

Bespoke Polo Arenas

Polo is a gladiatorial sport that requires a fast, flat and secure arena surface. As well as this, the surface must also be soft enough to not damage the horse. Alongside the specialized surface, the surround (or fence) also has specific requirements. The surround is robust and angles to provide projection of the ball and merge with the gate. Following HPA guidelines, the new goals have a smooth entrance to both sides to prevent injury to the horses. As well as creating the perfect stage for top level polo, Equus Design & Build have crafted the new arena at the Beaufort Polo Club to suit the needs of the spectator too. A viewing gallery sits flush with the arena fence and provides prime viewing. The arena is finished with netting to not disrupt play, and floodlighting, adding an element of excitement to evening polo.

Revived in 1989 by Simon and Clare Tomlinson, the two main objectives of the club are; to encourage new players to learn and improve their skills. The Beaufort Polo Club plays host to the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo in June. The polo season runs from May to September and the club is always open to visitors.
