On initial arrival of this project, Bridge Cottage presented as a tired and dilapidated old cottage, adjacent to a bridge with a fast-flowing river which was about to burst its banks, potentially flooding the field and cottage.
Equus Design & Build were employed by The Clark Estate near Cirencester and supervised by agents Strutt and Parker to renovate and extend the property. Firstly, extensive flood defensive measures were undertaken, piling and complicated foundation work then followed.
Part of the remit was the preservation of old fireplaces and beams to try and retain as much of the original character of the building as possible. The extension consisted of matching Cotswold stone and lime mortar to match the existing building, along with new bathrooms and kitchen. Landscaping of the gardens was carefully considered, with a simple green field extension of the garden which returned the completely renovated, extended and modernised building back to the cottage at the end of the farm track by the river.
